I would like to add you to my professional network.”What would be reaction if someone did that to you? You would definitely think that they are crazy. Why then would you think this works on LinkedIn?If you want to network with someone in real life, you normally walk to them, introduce yourself, find something common to talk about and explain why you are interested in k nowing them. The same applies when networking on LinkedIn.You should compose a message explaining who you are and why you are interested in connecting with them. More specifically, some of the elements you should include in your message include:IntroductionJust like you would not walk to someone in a real life networking event and start talking to them without telling them who you are, you should not start your LinkedIn conversation without introducing yourself.Tell the person you are reaching out to who you are and give them some background about you. This does not have to be overly complicated. You can simply say:“Hello! I’m Kev, and I’m a network engineer at Google”Why you are getting in touchYou did not just wake up and decide to reach out to this person. Since you admire them, there is a reason behind your admiration. Perhaps you love the kind of success they have achieved in their field and you would love to follow in their footsteps. This is the point where you should let them know what you admire about them and why it inspired you to want to reach out to them.You can also use this as an opportunity to throw in some flattery. There are hundreds of approaches to building a successful blog. Ditto for creating great content and becoming a life coach.By asking such general questions, you are making it hard to the person to help you, and they will be more inclined to ignore your message.If you want someone to get back to you with helpful advice, you should ask specific questions. Specific questions also make it easier for the person to give useful answers that you can actually put in action.Using the above examples, let’s look at how you can ask more s pecific questions. Instead of asking how you can build a successful blog, you could ask something like,“How can I get my first 1000 visitors?” or “What’s the best way to monetize my blog?”Rather than asking how you can create great content, you could ask something like,“What’s the best way to incorporate stories in my posts?” or “how do I come up with great headlines for my blog posts?”Instead of asking how to become a life coach, you could ask something like“What challenges did you face when starting out as a career coach?” or “what skill has been most important in your career as a life coach?”These questions are more direct and allow the person to give you answers that you can put into action.Manage Your ExpectationsMost people reaching out to people they admire on LinkedIn with very high expectations. They reach out with the hope that the person will help them land their dream job or recommend them to someone who will give them a job.These expectations are way too high.Someone who has had their first interaction with you on an online platform is unlikely to do you such a huge favor. If you want to request for such favors, you should first take the time to cultivate a good relationship with the person.As you build a rapport, you will get to a point where you can now ask them to recommend you for a job or introduce you to one of their contacts.With this in mind, never ask for such favors in your first message. The questions I wanted him to answer were quite specific.What’s the usefulness of Solidity?What challenges should I expect?Finally, I concluded by expressing what I expected from the interaction, which was a 10 -15 minute phone call with him, which he gladly granted me. I also shared my contact information so he could easily reach me.CONSIDER YOUR TARGET’S PERSPECTIVEWhen reaching out to someone who does not know you on LinkedIn, you should also be considerate and respectful. Be considerate of their time and keep your message short and sweet.No one wants to read ten paragraphs of text from someone they don’t know. In addition, LinkedIn also limit the number of characters on your invitation message, so you need to keep it succinct.You should also be respectful and take the time to cultivate a relationship the same way you would in real life. Take the time to build a rapport, learn about the person and generally create some friendship before asking for favors. Finally, don’t make the interaction all about yourself and what you can get from it.Find something valuable you can offer to the other person as well.WRAPPING UPLinkedIn is a great social network for building your network and reaching out to people you admire within your industry or line of work. Evening Hawk Examined Matters of Time and Thematics - Literature Essay Samples

â€Å"Evening Hawk† by Robert Penn Warren is, despite its name, not about a hawk. It is about time, the ineffable qualities of that which is past, and the ways in which light and darkness relate with time. And skirting above all of this flies the hawk, a vessel that Warren uses to carry his message throughout the poem. The poem opens in its first stanza with a description of action. We dive into the beginning by seeing wings â€Å"dipping through† from â€Å"plane of light to plane† (1). Immediately, the word â€Å"plane† conjures up both planes of land as well as planes that fly through the sky. Despite the fact that the word most likely means planes of space/area, the heavy influence of flight and air in the first line already uses the double meaning of the word to influence the reader’s perception to drift towards that of airy flight. â€Å"Wings dipping through / geometries and orchids† This first line break occurs immediately after Warren writes of wings dipping through, and in a way, forces our eyes to literally dip through the words to find the next line. After he describes all of these lively actions, he ends the first stanza by writing â€Å"the hawk comes.† We see the way the hawk flies, the way its wings dip through the sky, the landscape it resi des in, before we know that we are talking about a hawk. And so it begins. The next stanza opens with the words of the first line in the middle of the page. Immediately, it creates a sense of immediacy, as though the reader is right there, wherever the action is taking place. The words read â€Å"His wing / Scythes down another day,† which once again forces the reader’s eyes to follow the motion of the words in the same sort of action as the hawk’s wings are taking. In the last line of the second stanza, a new concept and focus is introduced, similarly to how the hawk was introduced. The idea of time being the focal point emerges, with the words â€Å"we hear / the crashless fall of the stalks of Time†. First of all, the fall is described as â€Å"crashless† but is introduced as an event not seen, not felt, not tasted, but an event that is heard. This apparent contradiction was one I didn’t immediately catch the first time I read this poem, because it somehow works. It seems believable that we could hear a crashless fall, because the fall of which we are referring to is the fall of Time (which is capitalized throughout the poem, so as to emphasize its importance). Warren further expands on the concept of time in the next stanza, which is just one line that describes the head of the stalks of time as being â€Å"heavy with the gold of our error.† For me, that description immediately made me think of the Greek myth of Midas and his golden touch. Everything he touched turned to gold, which is what the greedy king wanted, until it turned the living, breathing things that he loved to solid gold. He was surrounded by wealth and everything he thought he wanted, but he was utterly alone and isolated. The fourth stanza begins by jumping into â€Å"Look! Look! he is climbing the last light†. Once again, we jump into the action, but now the reader does so in real-time. The exclamation points and present-tense create the sense that the author is asking us to look, right now, as he is writing the poem, as we are reading the poem. He goes on to describe the â€Å"last light†, which he begins to describe toward the end of the poem. For the poem itself, this may very well be the literal last light that Warren writes about. He describes the light as being free from Time or error, implying that they go hand-in-hand. He then writes that the eye of the last light is â€Å"unforgiving† and that the world, â€Å"unforgiven† swings under it into shadow. Now, the relationship between light and shadow are at odds more than ever in this poem, and yet Warren retains the use of flighty words such as â€Å"swings† even this far into the poem. Warren opens with the hawk, and despite the use of flighty and quick, airy language throughout the poem, soon reveals the true subject to be Time, and light, and the world itself. He uses the tense and structure of his words to establish an atmosphere of immediacy and present-time action within his poem, which creates an interesting contrast to the unmoving nature that time is often perceived as having.
